Notes from Wednesday run...

Notes 3_18

Everyone read through each scene--there are notes on signs, transitions, etc.  

General notes:

-NO white socks unless someone told you to from costume or me.  Always dark brown, or black…we have socks coming in, but everyone in boots and knicker pants needs to wear eiter socks that cover knee or some kind or dark stretch pants or leggings…

-Wings – we can see ppl waiting in wings, costumes, set pieces – please stay as far back as possible and time your entrance accordingly—I am okay w you being ready, but let’s not let the set piece or your clothes leak out.

-Better job not hitting legs—still a few, so let’s work on that more.

-Live Mics – heard some cussing, chatter off stage…means you are talking in wings—need to not talk just after or just prior to scene…

-find audience/cheat out, watch postures, men shoulders back, faces up, check costumes as you ENT-saw mic packs, etc.  watch collars flipped up, etc.

-Ensemble roles – you guys make this show—we are watching you a lot: your crosses, transitions all with big energy, etc.  you help us create this world and anytime you are onstage no matter what keep in the scene and in character—stay in the moment—you need to ask yourself what will my character do int his scene—how to react, look, move.. Give yourself different movements to distinguish yourselves from others..I am going to focus on this the tonight and Friday/Saturday night for notes.

-3M practice pulling swords/guns w capes.

-do not break third wall unless told to—see a few on video..

Sc 1 Gascony = Sign Girls – make sure all signs face toward audience…

Cameron Gascony SL sign comes out as soon as Music starts for opening—after announcement…do not worry about moving to fast—take your time and courtesy maybe as leaving… When you go to move this sign off, come out w more intent—it’s scarey, guns going off…grab and move into the first wing so you avoid the Muskteers coming out—we do not delay…

Chris/Cole – good pacing—just a bit more emphasis on pace as you move to each other on the lines right after the last musketeer move….leading to hug.

Chris/cole - Love the they say they say, etc moments—nice work chris and cole!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cole – be sure to look up after coin toss w amazement so his line works and cheat out so audience can see..it faces too much US.  Also, as soon as father crosses, get your sword sheathed—coin bag coming J

Cole – react bigger—more What the freak as your father talks about his buttercup while you hug mom..bigger question/puzzled loo,. head up little cheat out so we can see…

Do this for other horse lines.

Sherry – I kind want a slow look back at Chris as you talks about the horse, oats own 2 feet.  I did not want before, but want it now…give a look of—is he talking about me or his horse>>>>?????  Bring it up slow  too Cole and out to dad and then slowly you click and look out and back at father w a puzzled look… 

Do this for the other horse lines too…

Morgan – react bigger as well to his buttercup comments—you did a little one, but go even bigger.

Chris – live mics as you go off stage J

Cole – take buttercup with you as you leave stage…it’s set for you to grab and take—remember to take as if you are pulling a horse off.

Overall, love this scene—love everything…nice work kids!

Sc 2. – Cardinal’s courtyard - Cameron/Stephanie: No sign  for this scene, Cameron—sign needs to come off to gunshots, so be aware and take first wing.

Love this set up scene.

3M – we are going to move cameron’s sign change in and out of first wing, so come on stage immediately with columns on light change—do not wait for cardinal or anythig else.  Do not reset once set, if you can slide better…new columns are there today.

3M – make sure you really pop out from columns especially Aramis and Porthos…I am going to light you better.  Also watch spike marks – may spike is closer to wing.

Athos – bugger and move much faster….

Cardinal – kick that line out faster—I really hate them…bigger reaction and maybe vocally too…not yelling, but louder?  You are so far back that all your reactions need more facial and physicality when Up on platforms or behind scrims…

Sc. 3. – Mauriac – Cameron/Stephanie – Sign on SR, Nice job Steph—I think you winked?

Stage Manager – respike door so door is closer to scrim—not touching but close the gap so the sword swap is not scene.

Love, everything in this..

Rochefort – move away from scrim move—you keep hitting it w sword as you stand—take 1 step forward at all times.

Cole - Great job on this scene—really great!

Rochefort/Basille – excellent work laughing away!

Milady – nice emphasis out to audience on not quite done. 

Milady/Rochefort – if you can avoid walking on glass chards – great, if not, do not change blocking… but avoid as much as possible.

Chris Eden/sweep/bar keep – walk through Door as immediately after Cole’s – She was an angel. See mess on floor and begin sweeping away honked off…raise your hands when you first come out and shake head.

Scene 4 _Cameron/Stephanie: No sign for this scene. Only need to take off Mauriac

 love this scene—fun colorful, great personality

Cole – can you put back on your cape for this scene? 

SM – who ever picks up coles cape needs to get it back to him asap for next scene – please find out.

Remember you are far from audience, so always play big and bold on everytjhing from facials to physicality to vocals.

Treville, as soon as Musketeers come into room, go to stairs and stand—we have shadows in your face and we cannot really fix it…keep back open a bit more as you are getting documents, getting wine, etc.  angle/side profile when you get to desk.  Also, great work giving us how loony you think he is…make is slightly bigger though—we have a hard time seeing.

Cole – great work—very believable that you are embarrassed, but proud—that is the key—also when you come in, cheat out as you observe the rockstars, so we can at least get a profile of you in amazement over your heros

3M – great work—Aramis your god only knows is awesome—milk it baby cuz treville is giving you a big reaction.

Athos/Portho – even bigger reactions to Aramis’s god only knows…

Remember – this swing moment goes off you, so you make sure you are set—do not panic..we would like it to move along, but we can control it..you just grab, pull to right side completely and go, remember feet up.

Sc. 5 Paris – part of treville scene Cameron/Stephanie: No sign for this scene.

Timing it good.

Thank you Sherry—nice work on all your crosses, etc.  I love you sitting on stair and enjoying show, flip Cameron a coin

Treville/Darty – keep a coin in your pocket to tip puppeteer. 

Cameron – tip jar and really go bigger on puppets,,,make puppets notice scenes—you cover their eyes, mouths, bow, etc..need bigger movements from you and them—interact w crowds…move your puppet to give tips..have fun.

Crosses look great. All feels right…Jon O—come out mad and cross through—not crazy, but more more emphasis and look around too…you have time I think…look both ways down street and then move through.

Cole – great work on fight lead in and when sherry crosses…also, hilarious fall w horse…we were rolling it looked so good, so nice job horse puller.  BE CAREFUL THOUGH…pillow or matt for you?

Cole/rochefort – good fight..

Morgan – remember come in on top stairs on for blowing my nose and pause and come down as Stephanie and solider go walking by and turn to watch, then turn back—you came down too early and it was clear you saw Darty.

Cole - really great monologue moment.

Porthos – cross as soon as Morgan and darty move DS, time it…great look though—

MorganDarty – if you can pause more when Porthos crosses that would be great. Darty liked your avoidance, but maybe you come up chest out too…let’s discuss.

Darty cheat out at beginning of your scene w Constance, it was closed to us and then opened when you pulled her.

Jono/Darty great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  loved it…

Sc 6 – Kings Palace - Cameron/Stephanie: sign on SR

Transitioners – let’s move a bit faster if we can.

Chris and Chris – nice work in garden – we will work on other brick wall—misty as an idea to help

Cameron stay tuned—may add you to this to water plants.

Great scene – so fun…

Queen – bigger reaction on oh thank god.

Rochefort – dont jumpe Oh thank god from Queen before you scream Your eminence…loved your entrance though and your wince off stage.

Queen – great stare down on cardinal several times—I like it.

Paul – get lace boot covers from Amber for all servant scenes.

Queen – let’s not hold cardinal off before responding when he says your majesy.—I changed my mind.  As he walkin in, take a drink and as you put glass down respond…as a matter of professional courtesy—and just a slight your bothering us….as if you are indifferent…ask me if confused…

Sc 7. – Luxembourg - Cameron/Stephanie: take down King’s palace replace w Luxembourg on SR

Hilarious—love the pace.

Chris/athos – loved the pace of it..seemed far more fun.

Rochefort – walk out onplatform, beat and “Halt—whats going on hear” then cross down w your soldiers…still not seeing you say it.

Great Athos/Chris work upstairs!  Hanging was great. Will light it.

Soliders looking menacing up top—so good.

Porthos – thank you

Window Girls thank you---really fun--laugh at Chris hanging

Darty/Rochefort – best ending yet.

Aramis – go for it…

Morgan – loved your thank you.

Aramis./Paul/Morgan – any cange you guys can come DS just a bit more—it keeps leaking US and we miss some of the fun…we can talk tonight—may need a slight adjustment from the start of your cross SL.

Cole/Athos – avoid wing in opening duel—it was really great though—loved how you go right into it…thank you cole for starting your you ready as you pass by and set and go.

Cole – take 2 steps back on seconds entrance

Jared – remember stay slightly US of Athos when discussing pumps to avoid direct contact to Darty

Aramis – be careful it oyu are going to cross down front of Porthos to notice Darty—do between lines…if you cannot go behind but appear a little later..will explain.

Morgan - peek behind musketeers – you can play this up..peek between them like you are hiding, then as he gets sacked, you back away, pull sword and even move DS…will explain..the portal will nto work because it will be closed starting tonight.

Sc8 – Luxembourg to bar - Cameron/Stephanie: No sign, so take down Luxembourg on entrance to bar—take off after darty is dragged off and add the Cardinal Palace sign on SL

We are going to start music later and everyone dive into the song..sing diddle, sing diddle..need bigger bar fun!  It is getting there, but still you can push it especially in the opening.

Porthos fun table – great work—you stayed soft when athos monologue and little bigger during the end…it was perfect…thank you. Looked fun too.

Porthos – love it—everything jump off climb up your word duel w Darty…

Athos the knife deal is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! love that part.

Cole –great reactions to Athos – come faster, eager on questions about  brother and hanger—need you to be craving for the punchlines more

Aramis/Morgan great – pace was perfect…Aramis cheat out a bit during the sabine falling over sitting up deal..you might even make fun on the last one, where you lean on her head to keep her up…let’s play w this. But cheat open a bit so we can see…in fact, you could move behind bench too..lets discuss.

cole get your belt on as you discuss constance, etc…as soon as you say I am supposed to meet constance--get ready because you think you are taking sabine home, but athos stops you and tells you he will,b ut you are getting your belt on too.  maybe you dont take off belt and only pull your sword.

Great work on knock out—Cole remember to turn right and then left to make it feel like you are in motion and forget which way..add some color to it.

Sc. 9 – Cardinal palace – love - Cameron/Stephanie: see note above on Scene 8, change to Palace on SL.

Transitioners –we need to figure out a way for this to go faster—can you be ready behind scrim to fly in?  need someone to work on getting the brushes/table out…who?

Same going out—need it faster—let’s move w far more urgency here.  Be at the ready.

Loved it all—

Cardinal – nice work on the village lines…

Ragan – continue to wear cape—I want hood on too..you will do the same in the convent too, but take hood off as you approach mother superior.

Sc. 10 – Cardinal Palace – Cameron/Stephanie: leave sign up from scene 9 no change/change happens on change to convent…

Aramis set column and stay and then leak out—do not set and go off stage and come back

Rochefort - bigger sell/reaction to slap from Porthos and when he does that move behind column and peek out

Sc. 11 – convent - Cameron/Stephanie: No sign for this scene. Sign change to convent on SR.

Nice work—remember keep stage right and come DS more…

Cameron – we need your line cheated out and much bigger---louder, more urgent.

Act 2

OPening

Stephanie – come out through audience stairs left during intro music—replace convent sign on SR w the many years later sign.

Cameron, you will put up the King’s sign on SL during the transition from Beez to his chamber---we need you to work w SM to figure out the leg because activity is happening, so maybe you help Constance bring out something while putting up sign…check w Stephanie Wisdom and Constance.  Need sign added as soon as beez start leaving.

Athos – wait until light hits you to start war on the cardinal…

Darty/Darty/3M – Porthos will give you lessons on the sword pushoff on the last word …for all..love this ending.

Montage- great

Window work behind scrim -Rochefort (for your scene 3)/Cardinal/Milady – get bodies and full faces In windows…work w each other to be sure we everyone and you need to step up into as if it feels you are hanging over window a bit.

Darty in lesson from Athos – Athos and Darty take off hat for the lesson and constance moment—leave just off stage.

Constance Darty on SL for rose pass to Buckingham – constance goes in first, then Darty appears at curtain during the hand off of rose…not other way around.

Constance – no consoling no handing off of Buckingham – you are out of that scene—too much for you.

2:1 king’s chambers/queen chambers - Cameron/Stephanie: King’s sign on SL-cameron will change.

Loved-bottle it.

Queen/constance entrances – can we get the table and chair set faster and only have constance make 1 trip out—queen you come in immediately as chair and table don’t wait for constance. Read letters, find something….get more letters? 

Constance – maybe go just a bit earlier to listen?

Constance – we go off you—as soon as king leaves-take one beat and move to queen—we will turn lights on.

Queen – nice urgency and pace and queenliness…

Cole/Constance – excellent work—cole watch sword and scrim behind you.

2:2 – love! – Cameron/Stephanie no sign –already up.

2:3 – road to Buckingham - Cameron/Stephanie: No sign for this scene but Take down SL King’s palace sign.

we will work on this today---liked it,but need to work on little transitional and emphasis things

Steph and whoever clears swords and chris eden-let’wait until transition into Buckingham—chris and sword can stay on floor.—will show you tonight—you are blocking a scene :-0 my faults

Aramis – stop and milk the dirty boot line…add dirt to boots to dust off in front of audience – see 

Erik to see how..hold boots on audience arm rest while they continue forward and you actually deliver the majority of your lines—break the wall..we will show you.  You hit stage just as you are about to get shot.

When you get shot—crawl—do not turn—you made a turn that took away from a fall of being shot.

General Shooting—do not shoot guns, you are in defense mode and  keep heads up, but you are being shot at, but let’s roll through lines as his you are gathering yourselves cannot get shots off yet. Only shot will be 8 now 7 shot is Athos…will explain. Need this go move faster.

2:4 buckingham - Cameron/Stephanie: sign on SR.

Buckingham/cole – better today—pacing good, show the audience more concern and urgency.

Buckingham-queen is lost, darty leaves, you sit and lights go out…move chair into corner angled out and leave stage.

Sc. 5 Ball Cameron/Stephanie: sign on SR – King’s ball take down buckingham

liked it.  

ensemble - have fun--laugh/chatter lightly. 

Sc. 6 – outside terrace at ball - Cameron/Stephanie: No sign change for this scene.

 Loved!  Excellent

Great fight –cheers to both.

Cole – be careful  running up stairs so fast—sell it, but you do not have to run so fast.

Cole/Constance as dancers fade away run in—we will have them fade on music fade.

Rip of sleeve—let’s work on that today..when it did work it was awesome.

Sc. 7 – LaRochelle – Farmhouse - Cameron/Stephanie: La Rochelle on SL

Loved –

Aramis – move out immediately on light change—quickly and make sure table hits closer to spike—do not reset if you miss, but let’s practice because some of it was out of light.

Porthos, come from same wing and do a partial leap. Love it despite hitting curtain.

Athos love the slide in!

Everyone stay cheeky and definitely light—shows your coolness under pressure J

Transitioners –table moves ASAP back in—do not turn table up—push in quickly as  is…fischer boys—one go US around table to push and other stay SL and pull…turn table up once all the way into wing.

Sc. 7/8 Larochelle farmhouse - Cameron/Stephanie: add farmhouse sign to La Rochelle on SL…will explain

Ragan – any way we can have you standing and put one boot up on table as you talk to cardinal at table?  Put a document in your boots maybe?  Let’s discuss—the sitting down is so relaxed looking..not sure I like it watching it—milady would not sit in this moment I believe—let’s discuss.

Transitioners – we will walk through transisiton

Athos – great work!  Milady so toucing and edgy

Cardinal – touchingly creepy!

Aramis – as soon as Porthos leaves stage you are up and away w Athos ----go quickly w him..we are transitioning

Sc. 9 – convent - Cameron/Stephanie: take down la Rochelle on SL/need convent on SR.

Loved!!!!!!!!!!!!  

Ragan and Morgan – love your fight—start quicker—ragan get slapped, move away as the slap caused you to move as you look at blood from you lip (all one move) and start fighth. and then go into fight not pause that long. Morgan look for anxious for fight—little bit stunned, but brave…as soon as she moves back—grab sword.

Also, Time your slap w each other each show…it’s looking planned and soft—need to make it sell

Stage – can we respike chairs about 1 foot back.

Transitioners to 10 – do not enter until all have cleared from floor and the light turns blue.

Queen/King/Cardinal enter as chairs get set—

Paul – your position behind table will signal lights up

If the cross is not down, do not position. 

Cross peeps – treville and chris—cross is laid down on platform as flat as possible.

Sc 10 – Palace – Cameron/Steph – Convent sign comes down and king’s sign goes up only in blue – do not take off until blue light up.   King’s sign goes up  on SR.

Really good scene..great pace.

Athos come in tonight as rochefort begins his lines.

Cardinal – call for rochefort two beat after choke to speed it up.

Darty – start and get your lines out immediately—I want choke to end earlier.

Porthos/Athos enter same time, except Porthos breaks to darty and pulls off.

Darty – be more in control—sell it, but be careful not to bump or kick, etc  It looks so real J

Great job getting in light.  We will move table chair back a bit to give you room.

Porthos – I need to get a blue feather into Darty’s hat—you will pull from yours and put in his hat and put hat back on head before all for one…let’s discuss when….

Darty – wear your hat into scene and either it will fly off or you will take if off as you talk about taking the hanging and we will add a feather from Porthos….let’s discuss.
